Final Week Reminders

It’s the last week of the school year – it’s gone by so quickly! A few last reminders as we enter into Week 11.

MONDAY is Meet the Teacher. Students will need to go to Room 15 for morning roll. Ms Dawson will let you know your 2020 classroom teachers and classrooms and you’ll spend the morning with getting to meet your new class and teacher. After that, Room 15 will be split for the rest of the day.

Remember: all class party money and order forms are due today – please give it to Miss Pape or Miss Thomas so they can check you off the list!

WEDNESDAY is Class Party day. You will need to have returned your order form and money to have pizza and icy-poles on this day. If you’re not having pizza, please make sure you bring your own lunch. (It won’t hurt to bring lunch just in case you’re hungry afterwards, either!)

THURSDAY is Movie Day. Make sure you arrive at school on time!

FRIDAY is the end of term. We will be having assembly at 12:30pm and school will have an early dismissal time of 1:30pm. Please make sure your families know what time to pick you up/book you into aftercare!

Week 8

MONDAY

Sport has been swapped to Monday to allow the Year 4s to vote for the 2020 School Captains this week.

TUESDAY

Year 4 students will be voting for school captains after lunch. The Year 3s will go to Art as per usual.

WEDNESDAY

Our regular classroom schedule applies. We will have science and continue our stop-motion films.

Carols rehearsals for Year 3s.

THURSDAY

Carols rehearsals for Year 4s.

FRIDAY

Library is on today. This is one of the last times to borrow for the year – if you have unreturned books you will need to look for them and return them on Friday!

Carols Night

All students have been spoken to regarding what to wear for the carols night – Year 3s are wearing Christmas/holiday-themed outfits (trees/reindeers/etc) or are to dress as rock stars (shorts/t-shirts/sunglasses). Year 4s are to wear something Christmas/holiday-themed.

End of the Year

As we approach the end of the year, it’s really important to know if students will be taking extended breaks or finishing early so that we can ensure they have all their belongings before they finish the 2019 school year. There will be a lot of classroom movement in 2020, and I would hate for people’s belongings to get misplaced. If you know you will be finishing the year early, please email Miss Galvin the dates ASAP.

Week 4

We’re well into the week now and have already had a very busy week, with visitors to our school on Monday and the continuation of our assessment week.

In maths we have continued our work on area and perimeter, as well as problem solving and multiplication.

In reading we have been working on finding examples of hyperbole in texts and identifying the reasons why an author might use it in their writing – which ties in with our work during writing, where we are exploring article writing.

This week in our integrated studies unit we will begin to plan and prepare for the creation of our stop-motion video later this term.

It’s also the last week for Mrs Green, who will be finishing her work in our classroom on Friday. I know we’ll all be very sad to see her leave as she goes on to complete her teaching degree.

A camp details reminder for Grade 4s will be posted later this week.

A minor change for the Grade 3s next week during camp – they will be running a normal program across classrooms in Year 3 and 5. They will find out which rooms they’ll be working in next week.

iPad Reminder

To all Room 15 students,

Just a reminder to make sure you bring your iPads to school fully charged every day this week (and next week) as we have a range of activities and assessments that will require the use of your device.

If you forget your device or are not able to charge it, please let Miss Galvin know as soon as possible in the morning so an alternate device or paper copy of assessments can be organised for you.

EB Fundraiser for DEBRA Foundation

Next week, the JSC will be raising money for the DEBRA foundation. We will visiting classrooms and be selling wristbands for $4, blow-up beachballs for $5 and sunnies for $8. On Thursday 24th October, we will run ‘Show us your seams day’ where students can wear their uniform inside out. Kids with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) struggle to wear normal clothes as just the simple rubbing of the seams can make their skin blister and tear. Students can bring a gold coin donation.

Thank you for your support.

HOUSEKEEPING

A huge welcome to Mrs Green who will be with us until the end of Week 4!

YEAR 4 CAMP INFO

Thank you to all the families who have completed the medical information form so promptly! It’s coming up quickly and we’re all very excited about it. We’ve had one year level meeting so far and will have another one closer to the camp dates. Please make sure your camp payments are up-to-date on Compass!

A note outlining the items students will need to bring to camp during Week 5 was sent home on Friday. Please stick to this list.

Optional camp homework for students (especially those who’ve never stayed away from home before) is to consider arranging a sleepover in preparation for the two nights away. (Year 3 families, this is also something to keep in mind as your students move into year 4 in 2020!)

During the Year 4 camp, Room 15’s Year 3 students will be split across the other year 3 grades for the three days so they will have a normal school program as Miss Galvin will be attending the camp. They will be given details the week before the Year 4 camp.

Concert Rehearsal Tomorrow

This is a reminder that we have our whole school rehearsal at the Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre tomorrow. This is a technical rehearsal for the people organising lighting and sound for the final production.

Students should come to school in their school uniform and bring the recess and lunch in a small bag with their name clearly on it.

Everyone MUST be at school by 9am. A-K cast will be leaving school promptly at 9:15am, with the L-Z cast leaving at 11am. Everyone should be back at school by 2:30pm.

ON THE NIGHT all Year 3-6 students should arrive at the theatre at 6:15pm and be signed in. At the end of the evening, students will need to be signed out before they are collected by parents. Due to the nature of the event, students will remain with teachers during intermission.

Students will need to come dressed in their base layer (black pants and top).

For more information, please refer to Capers.
